Item Description: Glynn & Barrett, Pittsburgh. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good Minus. No Jacket. First Thus.. Pittsburgh: Glynn & Barrett Samuel Carter Hall (1800-1889) and his wife Anna Maria Fielding Hall (1800-1881) wrote several popular books together. She was a prolific novelist and essayist; he was an art historian generally regarded as the model for a charcter by Dickens. This title dates to the 1840s, and Quercus is uncertain of this particular edition. No copies by this publisher are held institutionally, and no publication date is evident. Quercus presumes this to be the First Edition Thus; the style of binding places it in the mid-Victorian era; or possibly a memorial edition from the 1880s. Brown pebbled cloth binding with gilt lettering and an Irish harp on the front cover. Clean text with numerous steel engraving illustrations; 496 pages. Large volume; about 3.5 pounds in weight. Very attractive, but there are some condition issues: both of the gutters have split, so the binding is loose but still holding rather well. Other than that, there is rubbing and some minor fray at the corners and the head and foot of the spine. Because of these issues, Quercus must therefore offer this as a Binding Copy, in need of some reapair or restoration. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. First Thus. Decorative Cloth. Very Good Minus/No Jacket. Bookseller Inventory # 001155
