Item Description: R. Worthington, New York, 1884. Half-Leather. Book Condition: Very Good. Complete set of Irving's Works in 6 volumes. Half-leather, smooth brown calf, marbled boards, marbled page edges, marbled endpapers, prettily gilt spine columns with five raised bands and two morocco spine labels. Condition :-- Very light shelf rubbing, the marbled boards show typical minor rubbing; the corners of the 'Astoria' volume are bumped, the front cover top right corner is a bit chipped; the title-page to 'Mahomet' is torn at the gutter top with a 2-inch crack in the leather at the front hinge top but overall quite sound; the title-page to 'Christopher Columbus' is loose and wrinkled. Previous owner's name nicely written in old pen upon the second front endpaper of the 'Mahomet' volume and 'The Sketch Book' volume. The whole prose works of Washington Irving, including the famous 'Legend of Sleepy Hollow', The Sketch Book, 'Abbotsford', 'Newstead Abbey', 'The Alhambra', 'Granada', 'Oliver Goldsmith,' 'Bracebridge Hall', 'Knickerbocker's New York', etc. A very handsome set, beautifully bound in Victorian gilt half-calf.
