Item Description: 1909. From My Autobiography. New York and London: Harper & Brothers, 1909. Original green cloth. First Edition of this work in which Twain probes, with his usual humor, the Shakespeare-Bacon controversy (ending up with the conclusion that Bacon must have written the major plays). This was in response to Sir George Greenwood's 1908 book THE SHAKESPEARE PROBLEM RESTATED).~This copy does not have, following the title leaf, the "Publisher's Note" leaf regarding Greenwood, and it has no ad leaf at the rear (it is believed that the earliest copies had neither); there is also no rubber-stamped notice on the copyright page. Condition is just about fine (a hint of wear at the corners of the spine). McBride p. 233; Blanck 3509. Bookseller Inventory # 13171
