About this Item: Venetiis Apud Bologninum Zalterium. M. D. LXXV, 1575. Folio, 30.5x20cm. Latin language. Title continues "Antiquorum exemplis, nec non & recentium gestis munitus: Ad communem omnium Principum, Iurisconsultorum, Militumq; utilitatem nunc primum in lucem æditus. Cui accesserunt summæ cum Repertorio locupletissimo, ut facilius quæ memoria digna sunt, Alphabetico ordine inueniantur. Cum Privilegiis." pp(108)426(2). Title-page with woodcut printer's device. Contents with ruled borders, all but first few pages in two columns; with decorated initial capitals and a few other decorations. All edges blue, blue & white headbands. Original parchment binding with yapp fore-edges, on which 16th century or earlier fragment of manuscript music in 4-line staff Gregorian Chant notation in red and black, with accompanying Latin verse in black, and glimpses of decorations in red and blue; spine with manuscript title and date. Boards with ingrained dust-, handling- & other markings, fore-edge ties long since gone; three pin-prick size worm holes at lower edge of front board, no signs of full penetration. Spine deeply darkened, and chipped with loss; title almost illegible, date reasonably clear. Original endpapers lightly toned, spotted (to greater effect and extent over pastedowns), a little dust- & handling-marked, and with closed splits at hinges. Front flyleaf with hole and graze close to upper edge where short inscription almost erased, beneath which another inscription 'Julius Ferrettus (Italian jurist)' and smaller graze, and with hardly visible dampstain of length about 10cm and width up to 3.5cm in lower half. Pastedowns at both front & rear with minor worm damage close to hinges; contents otherwise worm-free. Title-page faintly & patchily toned and a little dust-marked, with three short black ink-strokes through still-legible 'A' of 'AEQUITIS', and with small hole close to centre (having negligible effect on print) covered by small paper strip applied at blank verso. Final leaf (imprimatur at recto) with a few minor spots. Contents otherwise just occasionally faintly toned. Top edge of text-block darkened; other edges a little uneven in tone, and lower edge a little marked close to fore-edge. Interesting binding holding firmly, though spine grubby in appearance. Contents generally clean, tight and fresh. VERY GOOD copy. (Giulio Ferretti of Ravenna, 1480-1547; held important administrative and diplomatic positions under Emperor Charles V; author of about 40 legal works, mainly on military and financial law.).
