One of Graham Greene's final works, J'Accuse: The Dark Side of Nice served as a declaration accusing Nice's upper levels of city government of protecting organized crime and corruption. The pamphlet provoked a libel lawsuit that Greene lost; but he was vindicated after his death when, in 1994, the former mayor of Nice, Jacques MÃ decin, was imprisoned for corruption and associated crimes.
