Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. J. J. Grandville (illustrator). First American Edition. This offering is a vintage copy of La Fontaine Selected Fables with the illustrations of J. J. Grandville written by Jean de La Fontaine and translated from the French by James Michie. The book was published by The Viking Press in 1979 and appears to be an American First Edition but is not specifically stated as such. The book is NOT an ex-library copy - and while the book is in very good condition (though there is some foxing to the edges of the block of pages) the dust jacket is only n good condition. It is 6" by 8 1/2" and has 273 pages with a Table of Contents and great black-and-white illustrations throughout the book. "Jean de La Fontaine used traditional material for his celebrated fables - but he brought to them his own unique verbal music - subtly intermingling the grave and the gay and rooting his tales of speaking animals firmly in the world of men as he knew them and in the eternal verities of kindness and cruelty - sorrow and happiness - love and death." Thank you!.

Nach 1835 machte er sich einen Namen als Illustrator klassischer und zeitgenössischer Literatur.
