Cox (Noel West). Illustrated by Frank Feller. Believed to be First Edition, published by Gardner, Darton & Co., London, 1897. 8vo, 20.3 cm x 14.5 cm x 3.4 cm. Red cloth-covered boards with gilt & colour embossed lettering and decoration on spine & front cover, Black embossed publisher's logo on back cover, Yellow endpapers, Some pages & plates unevenly cut on bottom edge, no dust-jacket. 320 pages. Weight: 804 Grams. CONTENTS ARE IN GOOD CLEAN CONDITION!!! However, there is a crack between 1st endpaper & pastedown. Spine is discoloured & scuffed, a little grubby, some tiny spot marks, bumped & scuffed either end with some fraying at head, lettering & decoration slightly worn away in places, gilt a little dull, binding tight. Cover is marked & a little grubby (more so on back), lettering & decoration fine, gilt quite bright but worn away in places, edge wear. Corners bumped & slightly frayed. Outer edges age tanned & foxed, top edge is darkened. All plates & Frontispiece present. Pastedowns & endpapers are slightly marked at front & rear of book. Prize sticker on 1st pastedown. Tiny tear on 1st endpaper. Small spits in between last e.p. & p.down. Some pages (very few) have corner folds/creases, and/or tiny edge bumps/nicks/tears, and/or marks/smudges mostly in margins. Light age tanning & some foxing throughout. VERY RARE ITEM, EXCELLENT CONDITION INSIDE!!! A great story for young readers, set in the American Wild West, the adventures of Jack, a fifteen year old boy who lives on a ranch. Master and Commander a little creased and rubbed at the top but still nice and bright, neat ownership signature to front free endpaper of Post Captain, Ionian Mission is price-clipped, The Far Side of The World is price-clipped and has bookplate to front pastedown. Overall an unusually bright set in excellent condition. All first editions, first impressions. The Far Side of The World has a second state dust jacket as usual. The publisher printed the incorrect price on the jacket, an error solved by clipping the old price and adding a sticker for £9.95, as here. Very few survived with the original price intact. A complete set of this celebrated sequence of novels capturing life in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic wars, which is certainly amongst the best liked series of historical novels ever written.
