Issued in conjunction with a series of 1975-1976 exhibitions of portraits rendered by American non-academic portrait painter Jacob Frymire (1765/74-1822), who practiced his trade in the three decades from 1790-1813, roughly, and throughout the North Atlantic states. With an essay by Linda Crocker Simmons. After the essay, Simmons lists 27 known portraits by Frymire, and illustrates the majority of them. Also includes a section on works by Charles Peale Polk (6) and others (John Drinker, 3; Joshua Johnston, 1; Oldridge, 2; Philippe Abraham Peticolas, 1; William Joseph Williams, 1; unidentified artist[s], With chronology.
