Frontispiece of heraldic medallion of James of Barrock and motto 'Vincit Amor Patriæ'. 11 genealogical tables, all but one folding. Several coats-of-arms in the text. Quarter white cloth grey boards with gilt heraldic medallion and motto 'Vincit Amor Patriæ' on upper cover lettered gilt on spine. Marbled endpapers. From the library of Allan Heywood Bright (1862 1941) Liberal politician, distinguished book collector and author of books on Middle English with his pictorial/armorial bookplate (by Downey) showing coats of arms, the motto 'Post Tenebras Lucem' and a view of a valley with hills beyond, a church and a rising sun. Loosely inserted handwritten signed letter on headed notepaper from Downham Hall, Clitheroe dated 15 June 1935 from R. C. Assheton addressed to 'My dear Bright' consisting of about 110 words in which he says he is returning the James Pedigree. He goes on to say that 'Our pedigree is pretty well set out in Burkes Landed Gentry'. Typed signed letter tipped-in from Sir H. Evan M. James on headed notepaper from Glenshee, Cambridge Park, Twickenham dated May 25th, 1914 and addressed to 'My dear Mr. Bright' consisting of about 150 words in which he thanks him for the additions to the pedigrees, particularly the Ashton pedigree, and says he is glad 'I have lived long enough to correct the sad omission about your father'. He also asks for information about how he obtained the Meyler property from the Ashtons. Loosely inserted pencil note on headed notepaper from Barton Court, Colwall, Malvern in Allan Heywood Bright's hand explains how his grandfather acquired the property. Tipped-in memorandum slip concerning the corrections and additions. Loosely inserted compliments slip of Mr Ashton James, a portrait of a lady and a rough pencil family tree in Allan Heywood Bright's hand. Tipped-in newspaper cutting concerning Herbert Ashton. Lower cover a little faded in patches, slight wear to corners, otherwise a very good copy. Slight wear, otherwise very good indeed. Bookseller Inventory # C14522
