Item Description: Alfred A Knopf, New York, 1972. Hardback. Book Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good / Fair. Nancy Ekholm Burkert (illustrator). Reprint. Hardback in dustwrapper. Bound with black cloth spine with printed gilt titling, and light blue paper covered boards with blindstamped James to upper board. The dustwrapper not price-clipped ($3.95) but with the price partially scuffed out. Dated by author's biography at rear of book which mentions Charlie and the Glass Elevator. 24 × 16cm, 119pp. This copy has Roald Dahl's signature tipped in at the ffep. Dahl's autograph is here on lined paper and dated 1988. James Henry Trotter lives with two ghastly hags. Aunt Sponge is enormously fat with a face that looks boiled and Aunt Spiker is bony and screeching. He's very lonely until one day something peculiar happens. At the end of the garden a peach starts to grow and grow and grow. Inside that peach are seven very unusual insects - all waiting to take James on a magical adventure. But where will they go in their giant peach and what will happen to the horrible aunts if they stand in their way? There's only one way to find out. Illustrated with full-page colour drawings and smaller b&w within the text by Nancy Ekholm Burkert. Condition: The book is in good condition. There is a previous owner's name at the top of the ffep where Dahl's autograph has been tipped in. There are two remnants of cellotape to the top edge that may have held the wrapper in place. Light bumping to the boards, the pages are clean and the binding secure. The dutwrapper is quite heavily creased along the top and bottom edge with some clear tape repairs and a few small closed tears. It is also creased vertically to the spine but is now within a protective sleeve. A good copy, and nice to see with Dahl's signature tipped in. Signed by The Author. Bookseller Inventory # 007337
