Item Description: Amar Chitra Katha/ACK Media, 2008. Softcover. Book Condition: New. Bagha Jatin or `Jatin the Tiger`, one of the great Indian revolutionaries, was born in 1879 in Bengal. After years of British rule, the great Revolt of 1857 ignited the first flames of independence in India. Although the British tried to suppress it ruthlessly, the spirit of mutiny could not be destroyed. In the early 20th century, a revival of this invincible spirit of freedom was seen in the activities of revolutionaries who drew inspiration from Sri Aurobindo - the `Prophet of Indian Nationalism`. They conducted their activities in strict secrecy, which is why very little is known about their lives. Jatin Mukherji belonged to this group of revolutionaries who sacrificed their lives for India`s freedom. He was one of the noblest martyrs of our time. In recounting this story, we have been particularly helped, among other sources, by The Saga of Bagha Jatin by Manoj Das, serialised in The Illustrated Weekly of India in 1971. Printed Pages: 32. Item Description: Roli Books, 2003. Paperback. Book Condition: As New. From the introduction: "Jatin Das lives in Delhi and works in the largest space in his home - the sitting room, which has become his studio. Crowded with art materials and canvases of all sizes, everything here resounds with his gutsy strokes. Bold dark lines that do not hesitate to take forms emerge from every canvas, bare human bodies with layers of exuberant warm earth-colours that seem to wreath, wrap, and unveil them all at the same time. One wonders: where does this energy come from? "Born in 1941, Jatin belongs to the erstwhile princely state of Mayurbhanj in Orissa. His father, an architect-builder from a middle-class family, married his mother at the tender age of fifteen. His mother wrote poetry on bits of paper on the back of an envelope that she kept safely hidden under the mattress of her bed. Being a Vaishnavite, her gentle poetry sang of her love for Krishna. She died at the age of 85, before she could see her book of poems put together by Jatin and entitled: Adorning Myself I Waited for You, in the Temple of My Heart. "Early in his career, when Jatin lived in Mumbai, he found out that his mother had more than one passion. The Bhulabhai Memorial Institute in Mumbai where Jatin had worked was being brought down for reconstruction and so he had shifted his studio to his flat. Once, his mother sat and watched him work on a painting, late into the night. She asked him not to sell that particular painting. 'Keep it', she pleaded. She then recollected how she had been awarded a Japanese doll for one of her paintings in school. " In comparison to his other siblings, 64 pp. Bookseller Inventory # 48260

Item Description: Manohar Publisher, 2016. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. 1st Edition. Jatindranath Mukherjee (Bagha Jatin) was a legendary leader of the revolutionary movement in Bengal and Orissa in the early part of twentieth century. A formidable organizer and planner, right-hand man of Sri Aurobindo, founder member of Jugantar and Anushilan Samiti, Jatin realized early that it was futile for revolutionaries to fight the British Raj on their own. He established links with the Germans during the First World War, and was killed after a dramatic gunfight at Balasore on 9 September 1915. This slim, exciting volume, full of rare insights gleaned from familial and archival sources by Jatinís grandson, brings to the fore the portrait of indomitable courage and fortitude. A man who inspired millions across India, including Subhas Bose and Bhagat Singh, this heart-felt volume pays exemplary tribute to him. Bookseller Inventory # 117943
