Condition: Fair. 1950. First Edition. 268 pages. No dust jacket. Red cloth with faded lettering to spine. Boards and rear paste-down are very notably water stained. Front free endpaper is missing. Pages are lightly tanned with water staining and a few small nicks along text block edge. Moderate cracking to hinges and gutters, with exposed netting. Binding is fairly loose. Pen and pencil inscription to half title page. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with mild bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Heavy tanning and sunning to spine and edges, with visible crushing to spine ends. Book has a pronounced forward lean and bow. Very notable water staining to front board and spine.
Hardcover. Condition: Poor. No Jacket. First Edition. The boards are shelf worn with a large ink stain on the front board, fading around the edges and spine and knocks. The binding is secure. Ink inscription from a previous owner on the front end page. The netting is slightly exposed on the paste downs. No other inscriptions or annotations. r*16/02/2024 JHK. Gilt dulled a little to spine, boards unfaded and clean, spine panel has faded area to base where DJ flapping. We have fixed up some tears with archive grade tape and placed in a clear sleeve. Front panel displays well. spine unfaded with all text and illus present, some corner wear and loss, at most 1cm on two corners. Unclipped. Quite a reasonable DJ for this vintage. Size: 12mo.

Covers are solid with a little fine rub to spine with a tiny nick to base. Otherwise very good covers with slight dustiness to white areas. Contents are age toned with slight dustiness to fore-edge of text block otherwise clean and unmarked. A scarce item in first Penguin paperback edition. Paul Gallico is best remembered perhaps for The Snow Goose and The Poseiden Adventure. Jennie is about a boy who metamorphoses into a cat and is helped to survive by Jennie, a tabby cat. Not exlib and packed and sent with care.
