Item Description: Hogan and Thompson, Philadelphia, 1833. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. unknown. The book has wear on edges, corners, and cover surfaces. The spine has an area of loss from top to bottom, though it is superficial and much of the original spine remains. The paste down title on the front cover is still present with only light wear and some aging. The book is still square and securely bound with no tears or parting. The interior pages show some foxing and age toning, though no more than would be expected. A former owner , John Warner has signed his name several times on the front pastedown and ffep. He also dated one of his signatures "1835." ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 216 pages; The American Jest-Book is a collection of jokes from 1833. A popular collection of jests, epigrams, etc., this book was issued several times from late 18th century until 1833. A second part, entitled the Merry Fellow's Companion, has also been published intermittently in that period. Owner's signature on front pastedown: "Hiram Q. S[?L]evarr".
