The covers are gently rubbed and bumped. There are multiple very small stains on the top edge of the text block, and the fore edge and bottom edges of the text block have several thin light marks. The longest mark is on the fore edge and measures 4 inches long. The pages are mildly browned, but very clean. Flake 4413. First edition. 1319pp. Large quarto [31 cm] Full leather with raised bands, a gilt stamped title and designs on the backstrip, and the word "Pioneers" embossed on the front cover. Marbled endsheets. Fair condition only. The extremities are heavily rubbed, and the hinges are broken. The text block is split several times at the beginning and end, and it is pulling away from the covers. The pages at the front and back are either completely detached or only hanging on by a thread (a few have tape in the gutters). There is a former owner's brief notation on the front flyleaf. The pages are age-toned, and have occasional small stains. Edition De Luxe. One of 4500 copies. Number line blank. Hundreds of biographies of early settlers of the Territory. First edition. 1399pp. Large quarto [30 cm] Full leather with raised bands and gilt stamped titles on backstrip. New endsheets. Good. The spine and covers are rubbed. There are small losses from the leather at the ends of the spine. There is a 3" tear at the head of the backstrip along the front joint. This tear was glued at one time, and the glue is visible. The underlying boards are exposed at the corners. There are occasional small closed and open tears in the margins of the pages. P. 49 has a long horizontal closed tear through the middle. The text block is beginning to crack at p. 625. There is a 2 inch long tape repair in the inside margin of the rear flyleaf. Edition De Luxe. One of 4500 copies. Number line blank. Three of the volumes are 3/4 maroon leather with red cloth over boards, and volume 4 has dark red cloth on the spine and boards. All 4 volumes have embossed designs and gilt lettering on the spine and boards. Volumes 1 and 3 have red speckled text block edges. Volumes 1 and 2 are in good condition only, and volumes 3 and 4 are in very good condition. The extremities are mildly rubbed and bumped. The endsheets have previous owners' labels, stamps, or names in pen. The spine ends of volumes 1 and 2 have small losses and chips. A large chip in the surface of the backstrip of volume 2, measuring roughly 2" long, has been glued. The exposed boards at the spine ends and corners of volume 2 have been colored in. The text blocks of both these volumes are cracked, one at the beginning, and one at the rear. Complete set of the original LDS Biographical Encyclopedia by LDS Church historian, Andrew Jenson. This monumental work (over 3300 pages) was published and compiled over a period of 35 years and complete sets of the original editions are uncommon. Flake: 4413. Seller Inventory # 39878
