Item Description: George Allen & Unwin Ltd., London, 1939. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. First Edition. 111 pages (complete). A sure copy. Written by the raffish, explosive, aggressive Lewis, this vociferous attrack on anti-Semitism polemic received a shocking review in "The British Union Quarterly" (published by the Mosley-led British fascists) and a glowing review from "The Jewish Chronicle". The dustjacket is benign. It has been lightly sunned, with some general wear and tear about the edges. The boards are smart and fresh. The contents are in a most satisfactory condition. They are very clean, clear, confident - as if just published! fk. Bookseller Inventory # buao

Item Description: George Allen & Unwin, London., 1939. First edition. Octavo. 111 pages. A classic case of picking exactly the wrong title: Lewis aims at repudiating race-hatred but the irony in the title can easily lead to misunderstanding.Small patch of fading at tail of spine and another at bottom edge of rear cover. Very good indeed in very good, slightly nicked dustwrapper with some fading to the spine. Bookseller Inventory # LEWISWYN026415

Item Description: London: George Allen & Unwin Ltd, 1939, 1939. Octavo. Original red cloth, titles to spine and upper board in black. With the dust jacket. Bookseller's ticket to front free endpaper. Spine rolled, light spotting to cloth, edges of text block and contents spotted. A very good copy in the price-clipped jacket with faded spine panel and a short split to the lower panel. First edition, first impression. Written following the author's visit to Berlin in 1937, Lewis's book takes its ghastly title from a now-forgotten 1931 bestseller called The English: Are They Human? by the Dutch humourist G. J. Renier. An avowedly anti-fascist book, it was intended partly as an apology for his earlier ill-judged writings on the subject, consequently being "reviewed negatively by the British Union Quarterly, and enthusiastically welcomed by the Jewish Chronicle" (Waddell, "Lewis and Fascism" in The Cambridge Companion to Wyndham Lewis, p. 87). Item Description: George Allen and Unwin, London, 1939. Hardcover. Book Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. George Allen & Unwin, London, 1939 First Edition. Octavo. Original red cloth boards, lettered to spine and front board in black. A fine copy apart from dust-marking to top edge, in a near fine unclipped dust jacket with sunning to the spine and a few minor marks. A beautiful copy. The title is ironic, as the book conveys the author's revulsion to anti-semitism following his visit to Germany in 1937. Bookseller Inventory # ABE-17570588002
