Item Description: Simon and Schuster, New York, 1962. Half Aqua Cloth w gilt graphic. Book Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good (Brodarted). First Printing Stated. This 463 page religious benchmark is presented in the original Gold-stamped turquoise cloth over blue paper-covered boards with gold lettering on spine. Just for the record, okay, for we would be remiss if we did not mention that both binding and text block are rock solid tight and clean, AAA all the way. Totally unbumped and unmarked, save for quite light corner and spine end rubs. UNCLIPPED jakcet has moderate edgewear and on thumbnail sized edge chip mission. But not to worry, for said imperfection is made considerably less objectionable, since, on the very positive side of things, the jacket is now protected from any future ambient abuse and resulting degradation by expertly fitted and applied yet instantly removable Brodart mylar. M. I. Dimont's work focuses on the triumphant contributions Jews have made rather than their sufferings. He tells of the rich Jewish history incorporating telling analogies with American history and 'contemporary' events but always adhering to a basic theme - that Jews have, as a civilization, survived four thousand years through the basic strength of the ideas of Judaism, through adaptability, intelligence, and through sheer physical and moral strength. Enough said of offerings which speak loudly for themselves. Acquire, enjoy, and share what the self-actualized author has discovered in his extensive intellectual travels to prepare this very informative writing for public edification. Experience the pleasure of reading and appreciating this actual printed item. It has its own physical history that imbues it with a permanent character lacking in transitory electronic renderings. As always, more photos and/or info on request. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover. Bookseller Inventory # 010833

The great historical, geographical, genealogical and poetical: COLLIER, JEREMY and

Item Description: printed for Henry Rhodes; Thomas Newborough; the assigns of L. Meredith; and Elizabeth Harris, London, 1701. First edition in English of Moreri's great Le grand dictionaire historique, here styled the "second edition, revis'd, correct'd and enlarg'd to the year 1688," 4 vols. in 3, folio, engraved frontis portrait, title-pp. in red and black; text in double column; contemporary and probably original quarter calf over marbled boards, gilt lettering direct on spines; joints cracked, cords holding; extremities rubbed and worn; rear cover of vol. I loose but present; mild dampstaining on last 20 leaves in bottom margin of vol. II, with resultant mildew; a venerable-looking set. Ebert 14387, citing Moreri: "A work esteemed notwithstanding its faults. The first edition appeared, Lyons, 1674. fol. in 1 vol. The work was gradually augmented by Parayre, the Abbe de St. Ussan, J. Le Clerc [as here], Vaultier, Dupin, Jac. Bernard, L. Fr. Jos. de la Barre, Pt. Rogues and Cl. Pt. Goujet. Concerning the different editions, see Marchand, Dictionn. II. 289." Circle of Knowledge #13, also citing Moreri: "The title does not convey the full import of Moreri's work, which contains also much geographical and biographical material. His book is arranged alphabetically, with articles on places, people, books, and general subjects intermixed. Encyclopaedias modeled on it were published in Germany, Switzerland, and England; Peter the Great is supposed to have commanded a Russian translation, and an Italian translation was projected." And Spanish edition appeared in Paris in the mid-18th century in volumes. Says DNB of Collier's contributions: "Although many of the original articles, especially those on church matters, are learned, the book as a whole did not satisfy the requirements of scholars, and was pronounced inaccurate [but] the labour of production must have been very great.".
