Item Description: Sam H. Clark, Bismarck, ND, 1922. Paperback. Book Condition: Good Plus. Printed on cheap paper, staplebound, a bit yellowed, but solid. Just a bit of wear to spine, and spotting to rear cover. JIM JAM JEMS was an editorial magazine which began publication in 1912, and concluded sometime in 1929. Initially published anonymously, the editor commented on politics, and societal phenomena. This editor -- eventually revealed to be Sam H. Clark, a journalist who had published the Minot (North Dakota) Daily Reporter - commented upon topics ranging from Prostitution to Abortion and everything else between. Clark's commentary was rather fearless, and even though he was accused of using sensationalism to drive home his points, and indicted for "sending obscene and immoral reading material through interstate mail", Clark was a good writer, persuasive, and his articles generally well-researched. After ceasing publication of Jim Jam Jems in 1929, he went on to write a book entitled "The Federal Reserve Monster", and later began another magazine called "Red Ink". In this issue, Jim Jam Jems levels his sights on the purported bigamist, film star Antonio Rudolpho Valentino Guglielmi, aka Rudolph Valentino, whom he refers to as "this lodestone of feminine hearts"."imbued since his babyhood with all the ardent temperament of the warm Mediterranean." "What is there about him to make women succumb to that strange magnetism that they hurry to wed him before his divorce is legal." Another article sinks its teeth into "This Prohibition Monstrosity -- conceived in 'reformed' Bedlam and ushered into the world by Pecksniffian legislative accouchiers."Finally, Jim Jam Junior concludes by relating the forced departure of one Dr. Keller, chief of The Western Washington Hospital for The Insane at Fort Steilacoom, and describes in detail the torture-murder of one of the female inmates by female attendants. Item Description: Sam H. Clark, St. Paul, MN & Bismarck, ND, 1928. Paperback. Book Condition: Very Good. 64 pp. Printed on cheap paper, staplebound, a bit yellowed, but solid. JIM JAM JEMS was an editorial magazine which began publication in 1912, and concluded sometime in 1929. Initially published anonymously, the editor commented on politics, and societal phenomena. This editor -- eventually revealed to be Sam H. Clark's commentary was rather fearless, and even though he was accused of using sensationalism to drive home his points, and indicted for "sending obscene and immoral reading material through interstate mail", Clark was a fairly competent writer, persuasive, and his articles generally well-researched. Occasionally (perhaps MORE than occasionally) he strayed dangerously close to the line, freely using expressions which today would be considered unmentionable. After ceasing publication of Jim Jam Jems in 1929, he went on to write a book entitled "The Federal Reserve Monster", and later began another magazine called "Red Ink". This month's issue features an article on traveling salesman entitled "The Traveling Man and The Kike", which while celebrating the classic American drummer, the "Knight of The Grip", attacks those he perceives as the stereotypical Jewish salesman - loud, demanding, coming on to all the girls. Jim Jam Junior looks at the funeral in Chinatown of Gertie Merritt, complete with his sometimes maudlin histrionic raconteurship: ".'Pipe-hitters' knew Gertie Merritt, for she was one of them. Guzzlers of 'Hop Toad Whiskey' knew Gertie Merritt, for she drank with them. The "snow birds" of cocaine knew Gertie Merritt, for she too 'snuffed the snow'. The scarlet sisterhood, earth's oldest profession, knew Gertie Merritt, for across her bosom blazed their insignia. Pickpockets knew Gertie Merritt, for she too skillfully 'lifted leather'.Lower and lower sank Gertie Merritt.and lower she couldn't sink." ."Black Jubal Burr -- blue black - with his head thrown back and his gorilla-like arms far flexed, sang 'Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty, and tears coursed down cheeks from misted eyes."Also an article entitled: "More Federal Reserve Pillage", and more.
