First edition. 166 pp. Several black and white illustrations. This is the story of Sir James Shand MBE (1908 - 2000), a Scottish musician who played traditional Scottish dance music on the accordion or "Button Box". It tells of his early life as a miner in Fife; the hectic dashing round Britain doing one-night stands with hisw "wee combination," the tours abroad when he was feted like a king; andthe effect his amazing success had on his home life and his health. The book is in very good condition with bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean and a piece of paper reading "Best Wishes to Jean from Jimmy Shand" has been taped onto the front free endpaper. A name is written on the top corner of the front free endpaper. Several press clippings about Jimmy Shand have been loosely inserted at the end of the book. The price-clipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some staining and there is rubbing along the top edge. The spine ends and corners are bumped and nicked. Size: 8.6" Tall.
