About this Item: Harper and Bros., New York, 1904. Orig Green Decorative Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. Revised Edition Stated. This 386 page Revised Edition Stated is proudly presented in the publisher's original full green cloth masterfully decorated with bllack and yellow and orange. Inside you'll discover 40 illustrations in black & white with an amazing frontispiece . A very good and scarce copy indeed. Eliza first went to Japan (where her brother George was a U.S. consular official) in 1885, and later ended up living there on and off throughout her life. She became known as an authority on Japan, giving lectures and writing about what she saw for many magazines and newspapers. Jinrikisha Days in Japan was her second book.In the springtime, Eliza saw cherry trees in bloom everywhere on hillsides, lining roads and waterways. All the major cities had special parks where people gathered to see the trees. A spectacular mile-long avenue of cherry trees in Tokyo, called Mukojima, inspired Eliza to propose a Mukojima on the Potomac. She took up the cause with Park Service officials in Washington, but they didnít think much of the idea. But enough said of select offerings which speak so very loudly for themselves. Read to learn and enjoy; go forth to share and enjoin.as the Author Scidmore, and the Publisher Harper, and most recently of all, how the righteously observant followers of Michael Julian Hirschfeld Galleries would both collectively since 1931 and altruistically into the future wish you to. Period. Case closed. Symbiotically beneficial acquisition pending your enlightened and self-actualized decision. Enjoy and then Deploy, as an elder Mark Twain reportedly once said while visiting the open-air riverfront reading and lecturing tent of a very youthful, but nevertheless wise Richard Hirschfeld. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Hardcover. Seller Inventory # 005732

About this Item: Harper & Brothers, New York., 1891. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition, hardcover, 1891. Volume is very good: boards with patina and general wear. Interior is near fine: pages are bright, binding is tight, original owner's bookplate in front, later private library stamp on title page with discard date. No interior writing or vandalism although I did find one stamp similar to title page. Fascinating volume packed with interesting stories, sketches and photos of old Japan. First editions are scarce, reprints are numerous. This is an excellent copy. Please see scans of the book you will receive. Seller Inventory # ABE-1514339117363
