Published by Collins Clear-Type Press in 1951. One of The Silver Torch Series. Size: 4 x 6 1/4 inches. Page number: 96. Hardcover. Blue cloth boards with silver tiles. 21 black and white illustrations - some full page. Condition: Fair. The cover is a little worn. The binding remains tight but a few of the pages have been torn and have been repaired with, now yellowed, tape. There are a few marks of foxing to the pages, plus other marks, and one short tear. The last end paper is missing, there is an inky scribble on the last page and a few page tips have been turned. No dust jacket. Thus a not so good copy of this book put up for sale because it is hard to find. Bookseller Inventory # 000569

Item Description: Wm Collins Sons & Co, London. Hardcover. Book Condition: Poor. No Jacket. The Author (illustrator). 1st Edition. 118 pages, a poor - and essentially reading - copy of this relatively scarce children's book. Assumed to be a 1st edition; last page indicates produced at "Collins' Clear-Type Press". Not dated but known from elsewhere as published during 1930s. Contains 12 full-page colour illustrations and numerous black-and-white illustrations, some of which are also full-page. Binding has split completely between front end papers and half-title page, thus front cover unsupported except for join with rear cover and all stitching exposed. Cover itself torn to a length of about 2cm at top front of spine; worn badly at all other points of spine and corners; wear along edges; a few marks; generally used and tired. Previous owner's name on front pastedown and reflected in part on front free end paper; creasing and wear to outside of ffep; another previous owner's name and details, though in pencil, on half-title page. Of 12 colour illustrations: one is loose and is torn slightly across picture; two are loose with edge-wear; one is slightly loose and torn though not affecting picture. Binding is beginning to split between pages 48-49, 80-81 and 104-5. An original printing error, as to page number, on list of illustrations in colour has been corrected by pen. Some wear to inside of several pages; light foxing on several pages. PLEASE NOTE ¿ This is a heavy book (in excess of 1kg when packed) but postage/shipping within UK is included in the indicated pricing.
