They are basically square, but the entire book has a bow and should spend some time in a press. They ar rubbed at the edges and most corners are through at the tips. The rubbing shows at the ends of the spine and there are splits at the edge of the back strip near the top on volume II. The front hinge of volume I is starting at he top inch. The blind stamped boards are covered with dark brown cloth with bright, gold titles on the spine and front. They are extensively illustrated with black & white drawings including many full page plates, The end papers and page edges are marbled. Volume I has 680 pages plus appendix and volume II has 682 pages plus appendix and ads. This listing comes with a large manila envelope of ephemera consisting mainly of period magazine and newspaper articles of various fauna, but also including several black & white plates.
