Book
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Reprint. 1 page leaf, pages [361]-395. illustrations, portrait 23 cm. From vol. X, South Dakota historical collections. Brown first devised his "Steam Wagon" and had it built in New York by J. A. Reed in 1859 and shipped it to the new State of Minnesota. It was disassembled and shipped up the Minnesota River to the town of Henderson, where it operated for at least two years. This first machine was lost in a trip up the Minnesota to Fort Ridgely, where the machine sank in soft ground and was eventually snowed in. Parts were re-used and another machine built in 1862. Most interesting and most rare.
