About this Item: published by Harrison & Co., London, 1764 / 1791, 1791. Condition: see description. 8vo, an introductory frontis engraving of Father Francis (Theodosius) and Constantia in an elaborate decorative frame, + dedication and introduction, viii,69pp, another engraved frontis starting the Correspondence, Book Two: Four engravings illustrating The Sisters, vi,169pp, The pencil note mentioned above on the birth and "judicial murder" of Dodd, has been corrected in ink, 'saying that he was born in 1797 was twaddle as this book was published in 1791' (is there life before birth?), it goes on, 'he was born 1729 and was executed in 1777 because in those days forgery was a capital offence'. Contemporary binding of paper covered boards quarter-bound cloth, rubbed top and bottom of spine and bruised bottom corners, handwritten on the upper board is the announcement that this volume includes 'The Sisters', both inside hinges cracked which has led to two or three leaves breaking away from the bottom stitch but otherwise the gatherings remain firm, the front free endpaper a little shaded, and nibbled bottom corner, and the margins of some of the plates which were printed separately are faintly spotted but, apart from a few little pencil crosses in margins and the notes, which are all confined to blank pages and entertaining, the text pages are clean if some are a little dusty at the edge, nothing not consistent with a book nearly 300 years old.
