Item Description: New York: Ace, 1953. Soft cover. Book Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Burroughs' first book, published under a pseudonym as one half of an Ace Double (backed with Narcotic Agent by Maurice Helbrant). The front covers of both titles are crisp and bright, with some minor creasing. The spine shows creases both from reading and from less-than-ideal binding. There is one modest piece of loss to the bottom of the spine (or the top, depending on which title you're looking at). Overall a very nice copy of a famous and notorious book, with wonderful cover art. Bookseller Inventory # 5073

Item Description: Ace, NY, 1953. Softcover. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. Burroughs' pseudonymous first book, a paperback original bound back-to-back with Maurice Helbrant's Narcotic Agent. Inscribed by Burroughs: "To Bob Jackson/ William S Burroughs/ for William Lee/ April 12, 1984." Junkie was a straightforward narrative of Burroughs' experiences with drugs; the publisher chose to release it couched in an anti-drug context, as a first person example of the horrors of drug use, and bound with a narcotic agent's memoir. Mild rubbing and creasing to the corners and joints; age toning to pages; very good in wrappers. Maynard & Miles A1. The beginning of one of the most influential literary careers of the second half of the 20th century. Bookseller Inventory # 033083

Both signatures were obtained by me at an event at B. Dalton Bookseller in NYC in 1987 for a Burroughs signing. Herbert stood by Burroughs side. He was very excited. In fact at one point he held up the book and announced to the crowed "I'm the main character in the book". A very good copy. Some creasing. A unique copy. Comes with a clamshell folding box. Item Description: Ace Books, New York, 1953. First Edition. No. D-15. First Edition, a paperback original. INSCRIBED by Burroughs, once on the title page of "Junkie": "For Allen De Loach / With friendship and all best wishes / William Lee Burroughs / April 27, 1974"; and once on the title page of Maurice Helbrant's "Narcotic Agent," printed dos-a-dos with "Junkie": "For Allen De Loach / William S. Burroughs."Burroughs' first book, inscribed to a close friend and important supporter. Allen De Loach edited the mimeo journal "Intrepid" out of Buffalo, New York. Like "Floating Bear," "Intrepid" was a mailing-list-distributed mimeo. Its issue 14/15 was dedicated entirely to the work of Burroughs and was the first serious and comprehensive examination of Burroughs' post-"Naked Lunch" work. De Loach often hosted Burroughs both at his home and for readings and events at SUNY Buffalo, where he also taught. Their friendship continued until Burroughs' death. De Loach also published most of the Beats under his Intrepid Press imprint, including books from Allen Ginsberg, Peter Orlovsky, Ray Bremser, and Burroughs himself. Burroughs, under his William Lee pseudonym, also edited **Buffalo Cold Spring Precinct 23 Bulletin** (Buffalo NY: Intrepid Press 1971). A warm and significant association. Very good in original pictorial wrappers. Some mild, inoffensive creasing and rubbing to the wrapper. Pages mildly toned. Else clean and sound. [Maynard and Miles A1]. Bookseller Inventory # 126517

Item Description: Digit Books, London. Paperback. Book Condition: Good. No Jacket. First UK Edition. No publication date stated but stated "First publication in the United Kingdom" so assume 1957. Paperback is very tidy externally. No fading. Very minor scuffing to corners and spine ends. Minor rubbing to front cover. There is a sticker giving NZ price stuck over the original price on front cover. The glue has given way on the internal spine so the text block is almost loose. Could easily be reglued. Discreet owner's name to pre-title page. Some age discolouration to contents. Touch of foxing to page edges. Junkie is a semi-autobiographical novel by William S. Burroughs. It was his first published novel, written under his pseudonym, William Lee. It has come to be considered a seminal text on the lifestyle of heroin addicts in the early 1950s. The Digit edition was withdrawn shortly after publication, and the remaining copies were pulped. Therefore this is one of the most difficult of all Burroughs books to locate. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 25891
