About this Item: Printed at the Congressional Globe Office, [Washington, D.C.], 1858. Removed. Condition: A very good copy. First edition. 8 pp. John Sherman (1823-1900) was the brother of Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman and would become a member of the Senate during the Civil War. "We insist that the territorial government established by Congress was subverted with fraud and violence; that the so-called first Legislative Assembly was a usurpation which no recognition could cure -one which it was a patriotic duty of the people to resist and overthrow, peaceably if they could, forcibly if they must, and which in fact has been practically overthrown; that the convention was a mere emanation from the usurpation, and, therefore, not entitled to any consideration whatever."
