Item Description: Ediciones El Mendrugo, Nueva York, 1971. Wrappers. Book Condition: Good copy. Con firma manuscrita del autor. En bolsa de arpillera que reproduce la tapa. "Artisanal And Limited Edition Of 150 Copies. Signed And Numbered By Octavio Paz". 8vo; original boards; issued in burlap bag; one illustration by Kazuya Sakai. SIGNED AND NUMBERED BY OCTAVIO PAZ ON THE BACK COVER. Limited edition of only 150 copies. This is # 72. Octavio Paz (Mexico City, 1914-1998) was a Mexican poet, writer, essayist, diplomat and 1990 Nobel Prize winner. He is considered one of the most influential writers of the 20th century and one of the great writers of all time in the Spanish language. His extensive body of work encompassed many different genres, but he excelled as a poet, essayist and translator.Kazuya Sakai (1927-2001), the illustrator, was an Argentine painter of Japanese origin. Born in Buenos Aires, he left for Japan at age seven with his parents who wanted a Japanese education for their children. Once finished his studies in literature and philosophy at the University of Waseda, he returned to Argentina in 1951 and began working on different projects aimed at the diffusion of Japanese culture. For 11 years he sustained an intense level of production in the fields of culture and the arts. He became a member of the Movimiento Informalista (Informalist Movement), and his work was exhibited in the most important galleries of Buenos Aires. In 1962, he moved to New York, and in 1965 he settled in Mexico, where he lived until 1977 when he returned to the United States. His paintings are largely abstract, and they feature a marked influence of Asian aesthetics. Elena Jordana founded Ediciones El Mendrugo, which published the books of Ernesto Sábato, Octavio Paz and Nicanor Parra, among others, in Mexico, New York and Argentina, in artisanal and limited editions, featuring corrugated cardboard covers and sewn with sisal thread. This is an exquisite experience of literary aesthetics: artisanal binding, avant-garde poetry, signed and numbered by a Nobel Prize winner. S.P. páginas. 8vo. Bookseller Inventory # P09C000028
