Brilliant interpretation of Hawaiian culture, from the gods and heroes of mythology and folklore to the arrival of explorers and missionaries and the rise of the tourism industry. A kama'aina born in Honolulu, Fraser (1887-1983) studied at Wellesley College, Art Students League of New York, and John F. Carlson School of Landscape Painting before returning to Hawaii where she completed a series of ten murals for the Hawaii State Library as part of a project funded by the Works Progress Administration. Her work is held by numerous public collections, including the Library of Congress and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Signed by Fraser on the copyright page. Folio. Original tan cloth binding, with black and brown stamping. Internally crisp and clean. Mild wear to the corners and tips; else very good in the original acetate dust wrapper. Signed by Author.
