An orignal 6.25" x 8.5" leaf from The King James version published in 1611. 10 1996 Jonathan Byrd's Rare books and Bibles produced an interesting, inspirational and informative 8.5" x 11" seven page brochure. This detailed the genesis of the KingJames versin first printed in 1611. It gives the historical background and discusses some of the prminent players in this drama. It features pictures of Erasmus, Tyndale, Foxe, Coverdale and Luther. Included was a certificate of authenticity guaranteeing the laid in Bible leaf to have been printed before 1611. Byrd's claimed to be the largest rare book and Bible restorer in Britain and drew these leaves from their restoration projects. Martin Luther died in 1546 at the age of 62. An English translation of the Christian Bible for the Church of England began in 1604 and completed in 1611 when the first edition was printed. Edition of 150 copies, plus 15 hors de commerce, numbered in Roman numerals, of which this is one, signed by the artist and the printer. Format: 15 by 11 inches, 64 pages. Printed damp on French handmade Apta Velin from the Richard De Bas Mill. The text type is Garamond Bold composed by Monotype, reset by hand; the display capitals are Stempel Garamond Titling. Bound in oak boards carrying a lightning bolt pattern in blind, with white pigskin spine. The spine is slightly sunned, faint scratch on rear cover, else a fine copy. The Book of Revelation was the first of several projects that printer Andrew Hoyem has undertaken with Jim Dine, and it was his first collaboration with a major American artist. The text is set in two sizes of type as a reading device to differentiate the speakers: 14 point for the account of St. John, 18 point for louder pronouncements from on high.
