Full-Leather. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. None (illustrator). First Edition. (NOTE SIGNED BY HAGGARD)This is the SECOND ISSUE OF the first edition although in a mixed state with first issue ads (5G.8.85) in the back of the book but second printing sheets. Book has been tastefully rebound in full leather with five raised spine bands and gold tooling designs and lettering. There is a tipped in note on stationary signed by Haggard, it reads: 5 Sept: 1916, Dear Berney Fichlias (not sure of spelling), That is very kind of you- We should much like to see his (can't make out word) & Yourselves -I think he was my nephew godfrey's chief. I suppose (can't make out word) the will appear about 3 (can't make out the two words above the name) SIGNED H. Rider Haggard" The stationary is from Ditchingham House, Norfolk, it also has a small stamp of hieroglyphics on the paper. The colored folding map is present and attached to the title page, 320 pages plus 16 pages of ads with two pages unopened. Wonderful copy of a classic work by Haggard along with his AUTOGRAPH. This appears to be an anomaly as the ads are the same as called for in the first printing although the misspelled words/gramatical errors were in the first 2 printings and the third printing is not supposed to have the ads???? Beautiful binding which incudes matching marbled end-papers and paste-downs. Signed by Author(s).
