Pages and illustrations have mild tanning and foxing throughout. More pronounced to free endpapers and pastedowns. Pencil markings to front pastedown. Moderate water staining to back pastedown and free endpaper. Pen annotations and marginalia to a few pages. Binding remains firm. Slight brown markings to rear endpaper. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Lettering is darkened. Moderate tanning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Minor splits to spine ends and corners causing cloth to be frayed. Visible wear marks to boards.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Reprint. Light green boards with red lettering on the spine. Rubbed and thumbed, a little scuffed. Edges and boards bear some light discolouration, front, back and spine. Head and tail of spine bumped. Binding is tidy and neat, yet split at the title page. Previous owner's inscription scribbled out on front pastedown. Also several comment written in the margins, such as "very enlightening information" which is then underlined. Page edges bear the odd stain, discolouration and light foxing. So too the occasional page. Otherwise this book is in good condition. *We always describe the faults of our books meticulously; they usually present better than they sound.

Howard Somervell on title-page; light tanning and a touch slight foxing to outer fore-edges, VG in (dust wrapper condition spine lightly sunned, a little surface rubbed at ends and tiny spot lower down; light tanning on rear panel; generally VG and complete) d/w now protected in a loose plastic sleeve. Howard Somervell was an important member of the 1922 and 1924 Everest expeditions, a friend of George Mallory and very proficient painter (8 of his colour plates adorn Norton s 1924 book "Fight for Everest"). An extraordinary man and gifted surgeon who dedicated his life to helping the people of India.
