Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Introduction by Curt Glaser. Lerski had worked as cameraman and photographer on a number of masterpieces of German Expressionist cinema, including Fritz Lang's Metropolis. He used Expressionist techniques to striking effect in this dramatically stylized document: his subjects are 'less representative types than complicated, anxious, and ephemeral souls flickering before the camera' (The Book of 101 Books) - - - - - - - - - This is a 1931 first edition hardcover without dust jacket in black cloth, text in German. In overall good condition with some signs of wear, sunning and rubbing to the outer black boards. Inside plates are in good to very good condition. The original was spiral bound within the hard outer board covers and this copy has been professionally and neatly rebound with book binding tape to hold the book block together once the spiral binding has collapsed ? common for this book if you look at other listings. Auer collection, page 172, The Book of 101 Books, pages 68-69, The Open Book, pages 98-99, The Photobook: A History volume I, pages 130-131, Deutschland im Fotobuch, pages 124-125- - - - - - - - - Please note this book is being sold by Nonpareil Books, Liverpool, England only through AbeBooks.
