[New York 1920, Scribner's]. Extracted original article, new covers, written by an American diplomat [6]p., 17 x 24 cm., a bright, clean example. RARE, OBSCURE IMPORTANT ARTICLE * * FIRST & ONLY EDITION * * . *** **** *** . . WRITTEN BY AN AMERICAN DIPLOMAT . . . PRAISING & ENDORSING JAPAN'S TAKE OVER OF KOREA . . . MANCHURIA AND SHANTUNG AREAS OF INFLUENCE . . * THE AUTHOR: Charles Hitchcock Sherrill [1867-1936]: He was an American politician, diplomat, sport officer, and author. . He studied law at Yale University, was called to the New York State Bar and became a New York City lawyer. . He was U.S. Ambassador to Turkey from 1932 to 1933. . Sherrill's controversial perspective, admiration and support of fascist dictators like Hitler, of who he stated: "Whether one admires [him] or not, at least he is a leader who leads." He demanded that Hitler allow "at least one Jew to be on their team" if not America would boycott the 1936 Olympics. Hitler refused ! . In 1935, during the preparations for the 1936 Olympic Games, Sherrill met twice with Hitler. A modern historian wrote that Sherrill was "mesmerized by the force of Hitler's personality and charisma." . Sherrill was an important American member of the International Olympic Committee and played vital role in organizing the 1932 Summer Olympics, in Los Angeles, and calming American public opinion on the 1936 Summer Olympics, in Berlin. . He also supported & praised Mussolini stating about him for his "amazing betterment of life accomplished by his régime." . When it came to Japan's aggression in Korea in 1910, annexing that country and incapacitating its royal family & aristocracy, and their actions in Shantung and control over Korea, Sherrill argued what Japan did was identical to what England did in Persia & Egypt, and the same as France did to Indo-China. That is take over these countries diplomatically using military force to quell opposition. . Sherrill's take on what Japan did in East Asia has always been bitterly opposed by the American diplomatic community. . The article is grossly one-sided in favor of Japan comparing their activities to being harmless and in support of the local population, ignoring the brutality and outright forceful takeover of these areas. . The article is an important insight to the reality of Korea's sovereignty from 1910 onwards by Japan . *** THE ARTICLE: This amazing article was in great opposition to common-sense American and British attitudes about Japan's brutal and forceful takeover of Korea, and other regions of the Far East belonging to China. The author took a minority point of view, supporting Japan as the 'logical leader to take over' these areas like Europeans did to other nations during the 18-19th centuries. Comments on "White Peril" and other highly anti-Japanese points of view are attacked and contradicted. . *** Color photos are posted to our website. . *** CONDITION: This is an excellent example, gently extracted from the original journal, nicely preserved in a new stiff white wrappers, keeping all pages intact, with original journal article title laid down on the front cover. . This is very clean, bright & solid copy, internally pristine, no issues. . *** REFERENCES en-wikipedia-org/wiki/Charles_H._Sherrill_(ambassador).
