Item Description: Udgivet af Clara Waever, 1966. PAPERBACK. Book Condition: Good. First Edition. B01G0YXTKM In Danish and English. 1966 Udgivet af Clara Waever (Copenhagen, Denmark), 13 1/8 x 9 3/8 inches tall paperbound, [13] pp. plus a one-page English insert laid in. Slight foxing, rubbing and edgewear to covers, with a bit of marginal staining. Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked. Scarce. OCLC (No. 873099198) locates only two copies at institutions worldwide, both in Denmark. ~SP32~ 'The cross stitch patterns found in this booklet are designed to be worked on linen, etamine or similar course-woven material, on which the threads are easily discernible.' - from the English introduction. The book consists of detailed diagrams for creating numerous embroidery motifs, including lettering and numerous botanicals, with one full-color image of a finished embroidery. As a young girl Clara Waever moved to Copenhagen along with her family. In an early age she showed great talent for embroidery and she was hired for an embroidery shop. Besides the selling of materials they embroidered special tasks for customers, and teaching was given in various embroidery-techniques. In 1890 Clara Waever opened her own shop at Vesterbrogade 62. Along with the sister Augusta she sold materials for different kind of embroideries and produced patterns. They also taught the young women how to embroider the old Danish 'white embroideries,' and 'all sorts of handicrafts.' They also trained young girls in techniques for decorative use for their marriage portion. Though she died in 1930, her designs and shop continued on under N.C. Dyrlund, who continued producing the rich traditional embroideries. Bookseller Inventory # SP32-0561-5930
