About this Item: S. stampatore,, S. luogo, 1766. In 12° grande (16×9,5 cm); (4 compresa antiporta, manca probabilmente una prima carta bianca), XXIV, 222 pp. e 13 c. di tav. fuori testo. Bella legatura artigianale della fine dell’ottocento in mezza pelle con titolo, autore e anno di edizione impressi in oro ai tasselli. Dorso a 5 nervi con cornici a secco ai tasselli. Filettatura in oro ai piatti che si presentano foderati con carta marmorizzata coeva. Qualche lieve strofinatura. All’interno qualche lieve ed ininfluente macchiolina di foxing, qualche pagina leggermente ed uniformemente brunita a causa della qualità della carta e nel complesso esemplare in buone condizioni di conservazione. Frontespizio inciso in rosso e nero con bella vignetta in rame al frontespizio con motto "Ludendo Verum". Bellissime le tavole fuori testo realizzate su disegni di Eisen incise da Pasquier, Lafosse, Beauvais, Le Mire, Tardieu, Lemire. Alla fine del testo una bella incisione sottotitolata "La Pazza Regina del Mondo". Magnifica e curata edizione del capolavoro del grande umanista olandese, Erasmo da Rotterdam, pseudonimo di Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus (Rotterdam, 1466/1469 – Basilea, 12 luglio 1536). L’Elogio alla Follia venne scritto da Erasmo nel 1509 mentre soggiornava a Bucklersbury nell’abitazione di San Giovanni Moro e venne pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1511. L’opera è considerata uno delle opere della civiltà occidentale oltre ad aver avuto una indubbia influenza sulla futura Riforma Protestante. Questa edizione si avvale della traduzione in francese del noto traduttore, storico e scrittore nato a Rouen nel 1652, Nicolas Gueudeville. L'opera più nota di Erasmo nella bella edizione settecentesca, arricchita ed impreziosita dalle magnifiche ed eloquenti tavole in rame di notevole fattura e di sottile fascino.
