Item Description: A Paris, Chez Guillaume Desprez. MDCCI [1701]; A Paris, Chez Martin Jouvenel au bas de la rue de la Harpe, proche le Pont S. Michel, a l'Image de S. Augustin. MDCLXXXVII [1687]. Second edition., 1701. Octavo. Contemporary black morocco, crudely rebacked, lacking clasps, first text good clean condition, second text lightly browned and scattered spotting throughout. Pagination pp. [22, mss]; 448, [18], 2 engraved plates; [8], 356, untraced but appears complete; [25, mss], [4, mss index]. This 1701 edition by Desprez is untraced. Numerous edition were published from 1665 through to the middle of the eighteenth century. Many contain 5 plates, 1 copy at the British Library (1684) notes only 2 plates (altought they suggest plates may have been removed) and several editions do not note any plates. The second work, 'Exercice et meditations sur la mort' is untraced on OCLC or COPAC. Bound at the front of the volume is a 22 page manuscript entitled 'Fragmens des Instructions de la tres Sainte Vierge, a une Religieuse Espagnole, morte en odeur de saintete le 23 Mai 1665'. Illustrated with a small line drawing in ink of the 'La Venerable mere Marie de Jesus', the account appears to be unpublished. At the end of the volume is 25 page manuscript commencing "L'Esprit divin, dont la sagesse et la prudence gouverne l'eglise a ordonne. " followed by a 4 page index in manuscript. Both texts and index in the same neat and legible eighteenth century hand. Bookseller Inventory # 7234
