Published by Cassell & Company, Ltd., London, Toronto, Melbourne and Sydney (1924)
Quantity available: 1
From: Syber's Books (Melbourne, VIC, Australia)
About this Item: Cassell & Company, Ltd., London, Toronto, Melbourne and Sydney, 1924. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Condition: Poor. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. J. Alan St John (illustrator). First Edition. The text is illustrated with for black-and-white plates (one being frontispiece) all are present, by J. Alan St John. Red coloured cloth covered boards with black coloured embossed titles to the front panel and back strip. Title says it all. This book is showing age and use: softening and fraying of the back strip with a 1 inch tear to the top right hand corner of the back strip. Bumping to the book corners with underlying boards visible, rubbing to all book edges. The book panel show rubs, marks and stains with the back strip quite sun faded. Browning of the text block edges with faint foxing with, surprisingly, only light age toning of the pages. Some scattered foxing throughout, along with some rather nasty stains on pages 364 and 365. The front and rear hinges have cracked and the underlying webbing is visible. Previous owners name to the front three endpaper and front paste-down. A previous owner has underlined all of the words of the title page please see photograph. The book is readable as the text block itself is quite tight and firm, but, it does need some TLC, and a sympathetic rebinding wouldn't go astray. Size: 12mo (standard paperback). [6], 422, [4] pages. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: J. Alan St John. Quantity Available: 1. Category: Science Fiction & Fantasy; Inventory No: 0123942.
