Item Description: Benn Books/Doubleday & Company; First US Edition, Garden City Park, NY. Hardcover. A rare children's book by Anthony Burgess, author of "A Clockwork Orange" particularly sought after as a study in juxtaposition from the novelist's more violent subjects taken to bear. Burgess, having been born in 1917 takes a curious turn by this story's publication in 1979, at the age of 62. Synopsis taken from the endpaper, "'The Land Where The Ice Cream Grows: A Story By Fulvio Testa, Told By Anthony Burgess'- Everybody said it was there. But where? Ah, they wouldn't say. So when three boys meet a strange man in a cafe who says he's been to a land where ice cream grows wild, and tells them how they can get there, they decide to undertake the journey by airship right way. Their logbook, accompanied by scientific photographs, recounts, day by day, the young explorers' daring and extraordinary adventures. So come along on Anthony Burgess' imaginative and fantastic journey- to the surprising land where the ice cream grows." Book Condition and Details: 1979 Stated First American Edition. One page in the middle has a closed tear ~4" that has been taped. Notary embossing signet by the Church Library on two page with a denotation on the wrapper placed by the publisher stating that this is, "A Doubleday Reinforced Library Edition". The book is moderately edgeworn and has a small cross and the original price penned-in on the copyright page, otherwise tightly bound. The dustwrapper is in archival mylar and has been taped down the endpapers of the books, moderately edgeworn with a "T" sticker placed on the spine to denote church library's place in its collection, otherwise unclipped and well-maintained as it had been placed in mylar upon its purchase date. Both the book and dustwrapper are solidly in Very Good Condition. Unpaginated. Book Description Visiting the land where ice cream grows may be interesting and delicious, but there is also an element of danger. Alternate Trade ISBN#978-0-385-15022-9.
