About this Item: Printed for Members of the Whip & Rod Club, London [New York?], 1950. Unpaged. Illustrated with b/w artwork (16 plates). Erotic spanking / flagellation fiction. Story begins: "I will begin by telling my readers that my name is Dolly Morton, I was born on a little farm in Massachusetts where I lived until I was 18 years old. At that time I met, and was woed, by a wealthy Southern planter, David Hunter, by name, who had a large plantation in North Carolina. We were married in 1860, just one short year before the tragic Civil War. This story concerns, to be frank, how human beings are ruled and subjected by the simple process of flogging their naked bottoms for every disobedience. In this fashion it is not difficult to bring a woman to the utmost slavish subjection and I had plenty of chances to see the methods they used in operation." Despite the name of the protagonist and the setting, this bears little relation to novel, "The Memoirs of Dolly Morton." Illustrations seem to date from c. 1930s, and include women spanked with brushes, flogged with belts, whips, and birches, both by men and women. Illustrations are not entirely regular in style or dimensions; may come from 2-3 sources. "Printed for Members of the Whip & Rod Club | London in the Reign of Her Majesty Year Two." Spelling and usage tends to follow American English; illustrations resemble some seen in American readers of the 1930s. A curious and attractive item.e item. Perfect-bound printed wrappers with sewn signatures. Some rubbing to extremities, scuff to margin, and corner of cover price-clipped; notation in pen to title page. Else very good. About this Item: Clacker Press, New York, 1937. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Four books bound in one volume, without wrappers; each title 48 pages. Illustrated with crude illustrations of men whipping women, women whipping men, and women whipping women, and even an African American woman whipping a white woman. A collection of short stories of private and public flagellation, quite transgressive for its day and even a bit disturbing now (the final story describes a public event in which five women are whipped to unconsciousness). Very scarce. One volume indicates it was one of just 200 copies. Bound in modern green cloth with the title 'Famous Spankings' stamped in gilt on the spine. Original wrappers to the books not retained. Still, a very scarce example of four books documenting sadomasochism at a time when censorship in the United States was quite severe.
