Gentle rubbing and bumps to corners and edges of blue paper over boards. ABOUT THIS BOOK: Convicted murderer Melvin Mars is counting down the last hours before his execution--for the violent killing of his parents twenty years earlier--when he's granted an unexpected reprieve. Another man has confessed to the crime. Amos Decker, newly hired on an FBI special task force, takes an interest in Mars's case after discovering the striking similarities to his own life: Both men were talented football players with promising careers cut short by tragedy. Both men's families were brutally murdered. And in both cases, another suspect came forward, years after the killing, to confess to the crime. A suspect who may or may not have been telling the truth. The confession has the potential to make Melvin Mars--guilty or not--a free man. Who wants Mars out of prison? And why now? But when a member of Decker's team disappears, it becomes clear that something much larger--and more sinister--than just one convicted criminal's life hangs in the balance. Decker will need all of his extraordinary brainpower to stop an innocent man from being executed.(Publisher).

SYNOPSIS: "All Dan wanted was to be a good husband and father, to provide for his wife and daughter, to keep them fed, warm and safe. But then the malevolent godlike beings called the Masters arrived and their darkness spread across the world, reshaping it into a twisted realm of savagery and madness. In exchange for his family's protection, Dan now serves one of these alien gods, obtaining human sacrifices to feed his Master's eternal hunger. Like so many people since the world changed, Alice has had to do unspeakable things to survive. Unfortunately for her, she's Dan's choice for his next sacrifice. Dan may not like what he's become, but he'll do whatever it takes to protect his loved ones. Alice doesn't intend to relinquish her life so easily, though, and she plans to escape, no matter the cost. But Dan won't give up, and he won't stop fighting. Not until he makes it through the Last Mile." IN STOCK FOR IMMEDIATE DESPATCH.

Hardcover. First edition. Not particularly flattering review from the *New York Times* affixed to the front pastedown, also affixed to the front fly is a nice one-page Autograph Letter Signed by the author to a former classmate at Princeton, discussing the book. The recipient has written out his connection to the author and some brief biographical information on the back fold of the letter. A novel about a young man home from the war who goes into advertising, rejects it as all "bunk," and flirts with Socialist philosophy.358373.

Very Rare copy of this early 20th century American play, made even RARER as this was the personal copy of, and SIGNED by Dr. Allan Knight Chalmers who was the pastor of New York's Broadway Tabernacle Congregational Church, a pacifist, and a civil rights activist. Dr. Chalmers helped organize the defense of the Scottsboro Boys, became chairman of The Scottsboro Defense Committee, and later was the single most determined figure in having them paroled or released. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. acknowledged Chalmers, who taught King at the Boston University School of Theology, as an important influence in his intellectual development toward non-violence. Dr. Chalmers notes that he bought this copy at the "Theater after seeing performance, May 6, 1930" on the front flyleaf. A UNIQUE and RARE piece of Civil Rights memorabilia. SIGNED BY OWNER. Book.

Stiff Embossed Wrappers. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Thin 8vo. Pp. 16, [1]. Blank leaf, title-page, followed by "Inaugural Message" p. (6)-13. "Ex-Governor Moore's Address" p. (14)-16. Crease to rear cover corner; edges rubbed. Inscribed by Ferry on a typed card ("Compliments of") tipped in at the title page. One of the earliest, if not the first, of Washington State imprints: Washington achieved statehood on November 11, 1889. Other presses throughout the state may have issued printed material in the week preceding this publication; that the State of Washington printed bound material is unlikely. In 1872, Ferry was first appointed Governor of Washington Territory by President Grant. Ferry served until 1880. After a break from politics, in 1889 he was elected first Governor of the Washington State. Among his initial tasks was reviving the cities of Seattle, Ellensburg and Spokane Falls, all of which had suffered catastrophic fires. Scarce. OCLC records eight copies, five of which are held by Washington State institutions. Now housed in a removable, clear archival sleeve with an acid-free backing. .
