SIGNED by Larry McMurtry directly to the front endpaper; without inscription. Book is tight; binding and hinges are strong and sound. Pages lay tight and undisturbed; seemingly unread. Grayish-black cloth binding quarter-bound over gray/black paper boards. Four sharp corners. Faint, scant foxing to page deck. Original DJ with $18.95 price intact. Minimal minor soiling to rear of DJ that appears cleanable if need be. A very nice, tight, signed copy of the enduring, classic. Signed by Author(s).

The book ha some slight gapping to the superior edge of the page block and a very slight lean along with pushing to the inferior spine edge. There is also age-toning to the page block and the corners are slightly bumped. It is a Stated "First Printing". NOT a BCE. The mylar protected DJ is price-intact ($4.95) with moderate wrinkling to the head and tail of the spine and the superior corners are chipped. There are also two small punctures in the jacket, one on the top edge of the front cover, near the spine and one near the top edge of the spine itself along with an approximately 2 inch stain to the superior portion of the spine. Signed for me, on the title-page, at Three Dog Books in February 2008. An unusually clear fine signature. Signed by Author on Title-Page.

The cast included Cybill Shepherd in her film debut. It was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Ben Johnson and Jeff Bridges for Best Supporting Actor, and Ellen Burstyn and Cloris Leachman for Best Supporting Actress, with Johnson and Leachman winning. In 1998 the film was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress.

The only flaw to the book are some tiny spots on both pastedowns behind the jacket flaps. The jacket has a small wrinkle at the foot of the spine, otherwise is fresh and bright with no wear and $4.95 price on front flap. It would be hard to find a nicer copy of this book, for which McMurtry also co-wrote the screenplay for the Bogdanavich film. Signed by the author on the front endpaper in a very legible hand. Peter Bogdanovich's copy with his ownership signature on the half-title. Additionally Inscribed by McMurty to Peter Bogdanovich, the director of the film, using most of the front fly: "For Peter: You should have figured out a way to put in the scene where Lois plays dominos with Joe Bob in his jail cell - But then you did beautifully by Miss Mosey. From the writer to the director with love - Larry." McMurtry inscriptions tend to be perfunctory at best, but when they are substantive, they tend to start with an insult and end with a compliment. Basis for the excellent Peter Bogdanovich film, which he co-scripted with McMurtry. It was Cybil Shepherd's debut and won Oscars for Cloris Leachman and Ben Johnson. Superlative condition, and likely the best possible association copy.
