Item Description: Xlibris, 2000. Hardcover. Book Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition (NAP). Once I list this book it will be the Only signed copy for sale anywhere on the Internet. You can see the book and dust jacket by checking out the photographs. The black covers of the book are spotless. They are not worn. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. The book is also square and tight, very solidly bound. The end papers are also black. They are very clean and unworn. The inscription is on the verso of the half- title page. I've provided a photograph. The interior of the book is in as excellent condition as the covers. The pages are exceptionally clean. There aren't any markings or attachments. I didn't see any creasing or dogeared corners. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. The dust jacket continues the theme of excellence. You can see it in the first few photographs. The flaps are not clipped. The front one has a mild crease. The rear one appears to be in perfect condition. And that pretty much describes the rest of the dust jacket. I don't see any tears or creasing. There isn't any soiling. I've had the jacket protected by a fitted cover as long as I've owned it. From the dust jacket's front flap 'If you have the occasion to speak in public or if you'd like to enliven your private conversation, then you want to put Laughing Stock on your bed stand for nightly reading. The book contains a collection of funny stories, jokes and anecdotes, all proven winners, which have been told by the author over a 20 year span. They will unquestionably amuse and entertain you and, at the same time, improve your facility at discourse, both public and private.' Arnold Irwin Burns, when he wasn't being entertaining and funny, was a lawyer. In fact he served as the United States Deputy Attorney General from 1986 to 1988 under President Ronald Reagan and U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese. In March 1988, a not so funny thing happened. Burns, together with the head of the U.S. Justice Department's criminal division William Weld and four aides, resigned from office in protest of what they viewed as improper conduct by Attorney General Meese, including personal financial indiscretions. In July 1988, Burns and Weld jointly testified before the U.S. Congress in support of a potential prosecution of Meese following an investigation by a special prosecutor, who had declined to file charges. Meese resigned from office later in July 1988, shortly after Burns and Weld appeared before Congress. Inscribed by Author(s). Bookseller Inventory # 001394
