"Valery Larbaud a été le premier grand "passeur" en France de la littérature d'Amérique Latine. Mais il s'est employé aussi à faire connaître en Argentine la littérature française. De 1823 à 1926, il rédige pour le quotidien de Buenos-Aires, La Nacion, un article mensuel sur la littérature française. Vingt-trois en tout, rédigés directement en espagnol. Il ne prétend pas y exercer le métier de critique, mais celui d'informateur pour initier à la littérature française des lecteurs de tous les degrés de culture. Ces articles destinés au public d'un quotidien étranger, traitent parfois d'auteurs qu'en France même, de rares érudits sont seuls à connaître. Larbaud a eu l'intention de publier en livre, à Buenos-Aires, l'ensemble des articles de La Nacion. Il avait trouvé un titre : Desde la nave de plata. Le Navire d'Argent, ce n'est sans doute pas sans intention. C'était le titre de la revue fondée par Adrienne Monnier. Et Le Navire d'Argent transportait dans ses cales, jusqu'aux rives du Rio de la Plata, la littérature française". (Bulletin Gallimard).
