About this Item: House of Lords, London, 1889. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Verbatim minutes of evidence given to the House of Lords Select Committee on the Sweating System, by a succession of witnesses, in sittings dating from 11 April to 16 July 1889. Large hardback with leather corners and spine, and the original leather buckled fastening (a small piece is missing from the latter, so it no longer fastens, but most is still present, including the buckle itself). The spine has bright gilt titles and raised bands edged in gilt. The corners and spine ends are bumped and rubbed, the covers have a few marks and there is a little scuffing to the spine and a small area of slight loss. The endpapers and pastedowns are in a striking , bright, mottled/swirled design in blue, maroon and white, and are in excellent condition. All edges have this same design, but a little less bright. Internally the book is fine, apart from a handful of pages which have marginalia (consisting of small vertical lines parallel to the text). There is some slight movement to the front hinge. This volume was previously in the reference section of Marx Memorial Library in London, and has the MML bookplate on the front pastedown. 558 pages. The book is large and heavy, so the cost of postage will be higher than for an average book. 0.0. Seller Inventory # 028623
