Everyman's Library #411 in their "Essays and Belles Lettres" series, edited by Ernest Rhys. --- In 'flatback' binding style 1, full ribbed terra cotta cloth-covered boards with elaborate Reginald Knowles-designed gilt spine titling & decorations, blindstamped J. M. Dent vignette to front cover, brown topstain and fancy Knowles woodcut art at title page, endpapers & frontis. Volume lacks the dust jacket. --- A well-preserved copy: unmarked, tightly-bound and sound, though with a hint of sunning to spine.; 16mo - 6 to 7 in. tall; xii, (2), 5-340 pages.

[4], 343 pp. 8vo., paper boards, printed paper label at spine. A few, light pencil notes in margins. Binding is dampstained at spine and top-edge of boards; upper joint is cracked. Text leaves are rippled from moisture, but they are not stained. Title-page is heavily foxed and there is some light, scattered foxing throughout the text. A reading copy of the first edition.

First American Edition. 343 pp, the book and contents ae solid and tight, the pages are browned and wrinkled with some foxing, a former owner has inked his name and some comments several times throughout the book, the 3rd front e.p. has the upper 1" removed, the rear inside hinge is sturdy and the front one is sturdy with some flexible glue and book tape on the inside making it stronger, the leather spine and corners have some scuffing and wear, the marbelized covers are scuffed and the rear is missing a 3/4" x 1" section, this is a solid and usable book.
