"[.] Sasha Stone, dessinateur industriel, ayant travaillé à New-York et à Paris, qui ouvre un studio à Berlin en 1930 ; photographe objectif, il travaille aussi avec le metteur en scène Piscator, et édite un beau portfolio de nus." (Michel Frizot, Nouvelle histoire de la photographie, p.472) Il était l'ami de Germaine Krull et de Walter Benjamin pour lequel il réalisa la couverture originale constructiviste de Einbahnstraße (Sens unique, 1928). Sasha Stone,born Aleksander Steinsapir (1895-1940)was a Russian born artist.A stateless photographer, he and his first wife,were successful photographers during the 1920s and 1930s. One of his most notable work is the cover of Walter Benjamin?s book Einbanstraße(One-Way Street) published in 1928. During his military career he served in World War I and was honorably discharged. While in the United States Army he was granted a stay at the American Expeditionary Forces(AEF) Art Training Centre in Paris after the war.In 1933,the couple were part of the Exposition Internationales de la Photographie in Brussels.their collection of nudes were published in Les Femme through the French magazine Arts et Metiers Graphique.(bron Wikipedia). 0 g. Folio. 20 loose leaves (title-page + nineteen plates numbered 2 to 20, some coated and some un-coated), as issued. Original photo-illustrated paper portfolio. Cover photograph mounted on stiff paper portfolio. Book housed in a custom-made green cloth clamshell-box, with title laid on spine. Sasha Stone (1895-1940) belonged to the circle around the constructivist periodical "G", which included Moholy-Nagy, Mies van der Rohe, El Lissitzky and Walter Benjamin. He created the photomontage for the dust-jacket of Benjamin's famous book "Einbahnstraße" (One-Way Street). Stone's nude work appeared in "Femmes," where his High Modernist nude figure studies emphasize sculptural form and unexpected angles. Some rubbing, creasing, and age-toning along edges of portfolio. Inside of spine partly taped. Minor creasing along edges of title and last plate. Tiny closed tear taped at verso of plate #20. Title-page in French.
