About this Item: Besson, (vers 1655), Lyon, 1655. ____ Recueil et explications de proverbes, mis sous la forme d'un dialogue entre un manant et un philosophe. (On pense à Jacques le Fataliste !) Si, "Il ne faut que deux poings pour faire taire une femme", est facilement compréhensible, "Merde à votre gorge, marchand de Paris" passe aujourd'hui pour énigmatique, même à un marchand de livres de Paris. "Ouvrage curieux et qui est fort recherché. . Fleury de Bellingen avait fait paraître à La Haye, dès l'année 1653, un petit recueil intitulé 'Les premiers essais de proverbes'. Deux ans plus tard ce livre fut reproduit à Paris, avec quelques changements, sous le titre 'Les Illustres proverbes historiques'. . Il en existe aussi une édition de Lyon, Besson, sans date." Brunet III, 408-409. Bellingen était professeur de français en Hollande. L'ouvrage a aussi été attribué au Comte de Cramail. Exemplaire complet de la belle planche gravée dépliante qui manque souvent. Charles Nodier possédait un exemplaire de l'édition parisienne : "Ce joli exemplaire est orné d'une grande planche pliée que je n'ai jamais vue dans aucun autre et qui représente une vingtaine de proverbes en action, assez joliment gravés". (tables). Brunet, III, 408-409. Nodier, Mélanges tirés d'une petite bibliothèque, 1929, pp. 128-129. Édition lyonnaise de cet ouvrage "curieux et qui est fort recherché" (Brunet). Fleury de Bellingen avait fait paraître à La Haye, dès l'année 1653, un petit recueil intitulé Les premiers essais de proverbes. Le livre fut repris à Paris deux ans plus tard avec quelques changements, sans nom d'auteur et sous le titre Les Illustres proverbes historiques. L'ouvrage eut un grand succès, dû autant à la curiosité du sujet qu'à l'érudition de l'auteur, professeur de français en Hollande, selon Bayle. Exemplaire contenant la curieuse et rare grande planche gravée dépliante qui ne se trouve que dans quelques exemplaires. Charles Nodier, qui possédait une édition parisienne de 1665, reliée en maroquin bleu par Bradel, note dans ses Mélanges: "Ce joli exemplaire est orné d'une grande planche pliée que je n'ai jamais vue dans aucun autre et qui représente une vingtaine de proverbes en action, assez joliment gravés". Nodier cite "Bonne renommée vaut mieux que ceinture dorée", ajoutons que se trouve ici également illustré le proverbe (!): "il ne faut que deux poings pour faire taire une femme".
