Moll geographer, 1730, marking towns to which missionaries are sent. -- Charles Inglis, born in Donegal, Ireland in 1734, emigrated to America about 1754. He became preceptor of a Free School at Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1755, moved to Dover, Delaware in 1759, became curate at Trinity Church, New York City under Samuel Auchmuty in 1766 whom he succeeded as rector from 1777-83, urged episcopacy for America 1766 onward (his correspondence with William White in 1783 printed on p. 224-35), made plans for mission to the Iroquois Six Nations, in 1776 as a Loyalist joined in pamphlet wars with Samuel Seabury, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Paine, was declared guilty of felony in 1779 and his property confiscated, returned to England in 1883, consecrated Bishop of Nova Scotia (first colonial bishop of the Church of England) in 1787, founded University of King's College, Windsor in 1790, from Halifax served Lower and Upper Canada until the Diocese of Quebec was established in 1792, and continued his episcopate up to his death in 1816.
