Octavo, pp. [1-2] [1] 2-336 + 6-pages of publisher's ads dated November 1860 at rear, original decorated purple cloth, front and rear panels stamped in blind, spine panel stamped in gold, light yellow coated endpapers, top edge untrimmed. First edition. "Old Stones" is about a visit to Stonehenge. "Brother Jonathan's Pet" describes in some detail a large ship. "Literary Ghouls," ostensibly narrated by an unnamed dead author, is an attack on researchers who dig around in the lives of dead authors. "Discursive fiction existing in the gray area between story and essay." - Robert Eldridge. NCBEL III 952. Wolff 5010 (holding an undated reprint). Not in Sadleir 1816.
