About this Item: Government Printing Office, 1904. Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Found recently by a friend in the home of his deceased parents, this copy of Thomas Jefferson’s “The Life and Morals of Jesus Christ of Nazareth ” appears to be a first edition, printed in 1904. The full title is “The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth extracted textually from the Gospels in Greek, Latin, French and English” commonly know as the Jefferson Bible. In researching it I find that the original is at the Smithsonian and in 1904 copies were printed for the members of Congress. There are introductions by Joshua J. Cohen and Cyrus Adler. The dimensions are 9” by 5 ½ “ and following the introductions is the photo-lithographic copy of the original. The cover is a rich red (leather or???) with gilt lettering and decoration. The endpapers are marbled. Both boards and endpapers are detached but the spine is still solid and the body of the work is tight. I'd say the cover and spine are in poor condition Unpaged. A map of the Holy Land is included. Seller Inventory # 100
