Modest wear to corners and spine ends, smudge on front cover from what looks like removal of a price sticker, good hinges, firm text block, a little foxing to the top of the frontis portrait and title page, lightly age-toned but clean pages, no names or other markings. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

No Jacket. 1st Edition. an impressive hardcover (1879,c1879) with a gold gilt title emblem surrounded by a gold and black braided border against a clay colored background on front beveled cover board, spine is decorated in a gold gilt illustrative floral and international theme below the title, frontispiece is an engraving of a Brady photo with a facsimile signature protected by a tissue guard, 850 pages in total (Life of Grant 251 pp. Travels of Grant 599 pp.) profusely illustrated as stated, inner hinges are intact, clay colored end papers show some fading, foxing specks to fly pages. gold gilt page decks, Grant's popularity has increased over the years remaining an important public figure even today.

He designed this as a popular history of Grant, following his Presidency. Extensively illustrated. Here are 850 pages (carefully noted by the author at the last page, of which 251 are the Life of Grant, and nearly 600 on his Travels.

Green coated endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated with a full-page portrait of U.S. Grant and with 55 full-page illustrations and numerous in-text designs throughout. Broadfoot 260 (cites only reprints). An unsophisticated copy. An entertaining biography of U.S. Grant, the majority of which is concerned with his time as a President and as an agent of diplomacy. Grant's trips to Egypt, Italy, China, Spain, and other global destinations are recorded here, along with illustrations of the people and archaeological artifacts he saw on his soujourns. Some rubbing to the cloth; two leaves in the table of contents show a tear in the margin and two leaves have a small spot of discoloration.
